Countdown to 'Beauty and the Beast' #7

Trivia Tuesday- AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs
In 2004, the American Film Institute (AFI) revealed its list of the top 100 songs in American cinema with "Beauty and the Beast" appearing at no. 62 on the list. Five other Disney songs, including "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins, are also featured on the list. One additional song from Beauty and the Beast, "Be Our Guest," was among the four hundred nominees considered for the top 100 spots.

Watchful Wednesday- Captain America: The First Avenger (Stanley Tucci & Alan Menken)
Marvel kicked off its Cinematic Universe in 2008 with the release of Iron Man. Films featuring Thor and the Hulk followed and in 2011, audiences were introduced to the first Avenger, Captain America. The film's sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was part of Phase Two and Phase Three begins this weekend with Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America: The First Avenger not only stars Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine, but also brought composer Alan Menken into the MCU. Menken and lyricist David Zippel penned the song "Star Spangled Man," which is featured during the bond rallies. The composer told HitFix:
“To me, the [moment] screamed out for Irving Berlin, in the sense of ‘This Is The Army, Mr. Jones’ or ‘God Bless America.’ It should be patriotic and it should be fun. The goal was to come up with orchestration that felt authentic to the ‘40s, USO [experience].”
