Countdown to 'Beauty and the Beast' #2


Trivia Tuesday- AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals
In 2006, the American Film Institute (AFI) revealed its list of the 25 best musicals in American cinema. Ranked at number twenty-two, Beauty and the Beast is the only animated film and one of only two Disney films to be featured on the list (Mary Poppins holds the sixth spot on the list). Watchful Wednesday- The Hunchback of Notre Dame- Kirk Wise, Gary Trousadle, Kevin Kline, Alan Menken, & Don Hahn 
The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on the classic Victor Hugo novel, is the 34th animated film from Walt Disney Pictures. Released in June 1996, the film went on to gross $325 million worldwide and became the fifth highest grossing film of the year. The film features the voice talents of Tom Hulce (Quasimodo), Demi Moore (Esmeralda), Kevin Kline (Phoebus), Jason Alexander (Hugo), and more. Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) reunited with Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas, Wicked) on the film's music, which received an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination in 1997. Hunchback also received twelve Annie Award nominations, including Best Animated Feature.


Throwback Thursday- Beauty and the Beast Happy Meal toys (2002)
In September 2002, McDonald's released a set of Beauty and the Beast Happy Meal toys to coincide with the movie's Platinum Edition DVD release on October 8th of that year. The set included six toys in total, including Belle, Beast, Gaston, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts.
