"Beauty is found within" a set of new Belle and Beast illustations

A set of new Beauty and the Beast illustrations were discovered among the pages of a Disney cast member exclusive booklet. The images feature Belle and Beast in the library and their ballroom attire. Hopefully we will see some of these illustrations again soon on Disney Store merchandise.

Countdown to 'Beauty and the Beast' #16

Trivia Tuesday: Lions, and wolves, and bears! Oh, my!

If you look closely at the Beast, you may see a hint of a lion or a bit of a boar and you would be right. Animator Glen Keane actually drew inspiration for Beast from several different animals (see the picture below), starting with wolves he observed at a London zoo. Keane also adorned his work space with buffalo and wild boar heads during production while he fine tuned the look of the Beast.

Dan Stevens: "There's some extraordinary digital wizardry going on behind that."

One question that has been on the minds of Beauty and the Beast fans has been how the Beast be realized on screen. The topic has been touched on before, but in a new interview with Indiewire, Dan Stevens goes into even more detail about how the Beast will be brought to life in the live-action film. Stevens says this Beast will "be as real as Emma Watson and Luke Evans" and also discusses the film's "lush" costumes and "unbelievable" sets, which fans got a brief glimpse of from a few Snapchat photos last summer (pictured below).

What can you tell us about that?

I can tell you I've played it pretty much. We've shot the majority of the movie. There's some extraordinary digital wizardry going on behind that.

So is your Beast a CGI creation or–

Well, it's a hybrid. I was puppeteering a suit on stilts and the facial capture is done separately using this technology called Nova, which is real pioneering stuff. We're still doing bits and pieces here and there, and just watching that emerge is really exciting. It feels like magic.

Dan Stevens: "I couldn’t possibly out-Gaston Luke Evans"

In a new interview with Den of Geek, Dan Stevens briefly touches on the "modern-day magic" of creating the Beast for the live-action film.

You have a lot of interesting things coming up and very different from what we’ve seen before. Like in Beauty and the Beast, you’re playing the Beast. I think you’d be more of the Gaston type…

Stevens: Well, thank you. I couldn’t possibly out-Gaston Luke Evans, but yeah, it’s exciting, really exciting. They’re amazing over there and the work that’s going into this movie is quite extraordinary. I’d like to think that it’s modern-day magic, the stuff that’s going into creating this Beast. I did the puppeteering of it, and now it’s being puppeteered further by these digital wizards. The stuff that I have seen in the last year, it just blows my mind what’s happening at the vanguard of that level of animation and CGI, it’s awesome.

Dan Stevens joins 'Beauty and the Beast' in titular role

On the heels of the news of Luke Evans joining the cast as Gaston, The Hollywood Report brings news of Dan Stevens joining Beauty and the Beast as the titular Beast. Stevens, who rose to fame with his role as Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey, recently starred in The Guest and previously worked with Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon on The Fifth Estate. 

Stevens also confirmed the news on Twitter, posting an image with the words "Beast Mode."
